MyClinicalPsych is a private clinic located in Thirroul. It provides family focused psychological services including assessment, diagnosis and treatment for children aged 0-12 years and parents/carers experiencing mental health conditions that range from mild to complex. In particular, there is a focus on treatment that improves the emotional wellbeing of parents and their infants before and during pregnancy, and the three years following the birth of a baby.

Evidenced based psychological therapy is available as brief or long term treatment, tailored to meet the needs of the client. The client’s family is included in the initial assessment stage, especially for young clients, in order to establish a well-informed view of the client and their needs. Treatment may then proceed for the family or individual, depending on considered benefits to the client.

Therapeutic interventions are available to assist people experiencing: anxiety or anxiety and stress related difficulties; mood and emotion regulation disorders; adjustment difficulties associated with grief and loss; and attachment and relationship issues.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Consultations are for 50 minutes. Initially, this time is spent gaining a comprehensive understanding of current difficulties. Treatment options and a treatment plan will be discussed and tailored according to yours or your families needs. Ongoing consultations can be arranged on a weekly, fortnightly or needs basis.
Parents bringing children for therapy will be involved in sessions to some extent. The proportion of time parents are present during sessions will depend on the child’s age and presenting problem. The psychologist will use their clinical judgement to arrive at the best treatment approach for the child, and this will inform the level of parental involvement required.
Often clients expect that therapy will generate positive emotions. While this is always a long-term treatment goal, it may not happen straight away. Therapy may involve remembering unpleasant events and tolerating difficult emotions in order to move forwards in therapy.
